What is Land of the Undead?
Land of the Undead is a choose your own zombie adventure
series. You are put into the shoes of different characters through various stories (adventures) and
are required to make the tough choices. Which way will
you go? What weapon will you use? Who will you
trust? Your choices decide you and your character's
fate. Can you survive in the Land of the Undead?

What structure do the adventures
follow?
Each adventure makes up one chapter of an overarching story.
Every adventure takes place in the same world, albeit in
potentially different times and locations.
John, our protagonist introduced in Stranger in a Strange
Place, is the main character. The current plan is to
have an adventure feature John every other chapter.
Other adventures will focus on different characters in
different situations, yet very much in the same world.
The Land of the Undead world is a fictionalized version
of the world as we know it. It shares the same history
as our world, but things like locations and people may be
different. For example, in Stranger in a Strange
Place, the characters are heading towards New Hilstead.
This is a fictional city, but in their world it is as real
as Seattle or Minneapolis. Other major characters,
such as government heads, will be fictional as well.
That being said, some well known locations will remain the
same, such as state names and capitals.

How many endings are there for each
adventure?
While there are numerous endings for each adventure, there
is only one "true" ending in which your character survives
the zombie infested world.
The reason for a single ending is to help the overall
continuity of Land of the Undead. While it'd be great
if character A met up with character B and lived happily
ever after, it wouldn't make any sense if in another story
character A was alone and character B was a zombie. By
having only one ending per adventure, characters are left in
a definite place to pick up on later.

What sort of timeline do the
adventures follow?
While the exact beginning of the zombie crisis is left
vague, June 6th, 2008 has been agreed upon to be the day the
world went to hell. It is on this day that the power
went out, major lines of communication were lost, and the
survivors of humanity were left to themselves.
John's adventures will constitute the "present" period in
the Land of the Undead world. Other adventures may or
may not take place in the same period.

I really like character X.
Will we ever see them again?
That of course all depends on who it is you like.
If the character just stepped in for a scene, your chances
of seeing them may be lower, but don't rule it out. If
the character was featured more heavily, then your chances
of seeing them again are much better.
Oh, and don't rule out seeing them again just because
they are dead.

Why doesn't adventure A relate to
adventure B?
Looks may be deceiving. While each adventure might not
directly affect another, every adventure helps fill out the
Land of the Undead world as a whole. Characters will
overlap, events will take place, mysteries will be revealed.
And to reiterate, while not every adventure will be
integral to the plot, some may be more so than you think.
It may be a fun little side adventure or it may be a piece
to the puzzle. You won't know until you read it.

Where do the zombies come from?
You might think you've got a good idea as to where the
zombies come from. Characters in the adventures might
think they've got a good idea. But at the end of the
day, there are numerous theories and as to which is right,
the answer is left open.
Land of the Undead is not necessarily about how or why
the zombie crisis happened, it is about what happens next.
How do people survive in a world overrun by zombies?
What choices do they (or you) make? What happens to
the human race? Questions like these are what the
adventures focus on and what is important to the story.
That is not to say that the question will never be
answered or that it will never play an important role.
But for now, it takes second stage to the real objective:
survival.

How often is the site
updated?
As often as I possibly can. Realistically though,
you'll see on average 2-3 brand new adventures a year and
reviews about once a month. Supplemental materials
aren't on any real schedule, so it is hard to say how often
new pieces will appear.
The reason for having only 2-3 adventures a year is due
to a few factors, mainly the real world. Between work,
school, and other hobbies, it is hard to find as much time
as I would like to focus on this site. Not to mention
the sheer amount of time it takes to write a single
adventure. I'll do my best!
What is supplemental?
The supplemental materials section is devoted to bits and
pieces of information from the Land of the Undead world.
These pieces serve to help expand on the world and give some
insight into unexplored corners. Each item is
completely canonical, but may or may not directly relate to
what is happening in the adventures.

What are reviews?
Reviews are meant to serve as a fun little way to get your
zombie fix while the site is in between adventure updates.
Each month or so, I will post a review of a zombie-related
medium (book, comic book, film, etc.) for your viewing
pleasure. You may also suggest items to be reviewed or
discuss reviewed items with myself and others on the
Message
Boards.

The logo and headers were created using a font called 321

been gracious enough to allow us permission to use it.

Who are you and why did you create this
site?
I am Jaybird, which is the alias that I have used for a few
years now over on our sister site
PsychoNoble.com.
I created this website and Land of the Undead because I
wanted to write something that I would want to read. I
remember as a child reading a good deal of choose your own
adventure stories and wanting to replicate and expand on
that experience. Although, I wasn't quite sure how to
go about it.
Very early on I decided that my story would be zombie
themed and over the course of a year (or more) fiddled with
false starts, aborted stories, and tons of plots.
Eventually I realized that I couldn't do everything I wanted
to do in just a single choose your own adventure, so I
buckled down and wrote a concise first chapter, which
eventually became Stranger in a Strange Place. I left
it on a cliffhanger, knowing that I could continue it later if
people liked it.
On Halloween of 2008 I posted the adventure on
PsychoNoble.com and the response was quite positive.
People liked it. This cemented that I would continue
writing the series.
That is when all the ideas started to flow again
about what I could do. More adventures, more
characters, more everything! I quickly realized that
everything I wanted to do could not be confined to
PsychoNoble alone. Considering we were trying to make
PsychoNoble, well, something other than a whole clump of
everything, I knew it had to go elsewhere. The last
thing PsychoNoble needed was yet another type of content.
Thus, the decision had been made, I would make another
website.
A dedicated website allowed me the freedom to make it
look and feel however I wanted. I could also add in other
exciting things, like Supplemental Materials and Reviews. All it
needed was a name.
After brainstorming with users on the PsychoNoble message
boards, I finally decided on Land of the Undead. After some testing and more ideas from users, the final site
that you see now was born.
Ultimately, I hope that people will find the adventures
on this site both exciting to read and rewarding to follow.
It is my first major foray into fiction, but is something
I've always wanted to do.
I am always open to your ideas and feedback, no matter
what it may be, so I hope that you'll drop by the
Message
Boards to say hello or send me an
email.
